Sutta 65
Dve Phalā Suttaṁ
Two Fruits
THUS have I heard:
Once the Exalted One was staying near Sāvatthī.
Then the Exalted One addressed the monks,
saying:
"Monks."
"Yes, lord," replied those monks to the Exalted One.
The Exalted One said:
"Monks, there are these five controlling faculties.
What five?
The controlling faculty of faith,
the controlling faculty of energy,
the controlling faculty of mindfulness,
the controlling faculty of concentration,
the controlling faculty of insight.
These are the five controlling faculties.
By the act of cultivating and making much
of these five controlling faculties,
one of two fruits may be looked for,
to wit:
realization in this very life,
or, if there be any substrate left,
at any rate the state of non-return.1
