Sutta 13

Sekha Suttaṁ

Learner1

THUS have I heard:

Once the Exalted One was staying near Sāvatthī.

Then a certain monk came to see the Exalted One
on coming to him greeted him courteously,
and after the exchange of greetings and compliments
sat down at one side.

Seated at one side he said to the Exalted One: -

"'A learner, a learner!' lord, is the saying.

Pray, lord, how far is one a learner?

"Herein, monk, a monk is imperfectly2 possessed of right view,
imperfectly possessed of right aim,
imperfectly possessed of right speech,
imperfectly possessed of right action,
imperfectly possessed of right living,
imperfectly possessed of right effort,
imperfectly possessed of right mindfulness,
imperfectly possessed of right concentration.

Thus far, monk, he is a learner."
