[1]Thus have I heard:

The Exalted One was once staying near Sāvatthī, at Jeta Grove, in Anāthapiṇḍika's, Park.

Then the Exalted One addressed the brethren, saying:

"Brethren."

"Lord," responded those brethren to the Exalted One.

The Exalted One thus spoke:

"Do ye apply your minds thoroughly, Brethren,
to objects,
and regard their true nature as impermanent.

He who so applies his mind thoroughly to objects,
and so regards them,
feels repelled by objects.

By the destruction of the lure of objects
comes the destruction of the lure.

By the destruction of the lure of lust
comes the destruction of lust.

By the destruction of lust
comes the destruction of the lure.

By this destruction of the lure
the heart is set free,
and it is called
'well-freed.'

"Do ye apply your minds thoroughly, Brethren,
to sounds,
and regard their true nature as impermanent.

He who so applies his mind thoroughly to sounds,
and so regards them,
feels repelled by sounds.

By the destruction of the lure of sounds
comes the destruction of the lure.

By the destruction of the lure of lust
comes the destruction of lust.

By the destruction of lust
comes the destruction of the lure.

By this destruction of the lure
the heart is set free,
and it is called
'well-freed.'

to scents,
and regard their true nature as impermanent.

He who so applies his mind thoroughly to scents,
and so regards them,
feels repelled by scents.

By the destruction of the lure of scents
comes the destruction of the lure.

By this destruction of the lure

and it is called

and regard their true nature as impermanent.

and so regards them,
feels repelled by tangibles.

By the destruction of the lure of tangibles
comes the destruction of the lure.

By the destruction of the lure of lust
comes the destruction of lust.

By the destruction of lust
comes the destruction of the lure.

By this destruction of the lure
the heart is set free,
and it is called
'well-freed.'

to mind-states,
and regard their true nature as impermanent.

By the destruction of lust
comes the destruction of the lure.

and it is called
'well-freed.'
