Ukkā

The Rich Gift

If anyone, brethren,
were to give a morning gift of a hundred ukkā's,
and the same at noon
and the same at eventide,
[177] or if anyone were to practise a morning heart of love,
a noontide heart of love,
an eventide heart of love,
even if it were as slight
as one pull at the cow's udder,¹
this practice would be by far
the more fruitful of the two.

Wherefore, brethren, thus must ye train yourselves:
Liberation of the will through love
we will develop,
we will often practise it,
we will make it a vehicle and a base,
take our stand upon it,
store it up,
thoroughly set it going.
