Neyya Puggala Suttaṃ

Quick-Witted1

[138]

Thus have I heard:

On a certain occasion the Exalted One was staying near Sāvatthī.

Then the Exalted One addressed the monks, saying:

"Monks."

"Yes, lord," they replied, and the Exalted One said:

"Monks, these four persons are found existing in the world.

What four?

He who learns by taking hints,
he who learns by full details:2
he who has to be led on (by instruction):3
he who has just the word (of the text)4 at most.

These four persons are found existing in the world."
